Access and disability

More information about access and disability can be found in our guide for prospective and current academy students with disabilities and specific learning difficulties.

The guide explains more about:

  • defining disability – from learning difficulties to mobility problems and long-term health conditions
  • how the Academy applies the social model of disability, which focuses on how people are disabled by the restrictions that exist within society, rather than by their condition
  • telling us about a disability when applying
  • help with attending open days and auditions, and before you start at the Academy
  • support and advice during your programme of study
  • initial screening, assessment or diagnosis if you think you may have a disability
  • the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) scheme, which sets out any additional requirements or adjustments you need, such as extra time, use of laptop in exams or enlarged print scripts
  • additional learning support tutorials and specialist IT equipment
  • visual impairment and training before your course
  • monitoring and developing provision for students with disabilities

It also provides information about:

  • accommodation
  • transport
  • financial help and the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)
  • useful contacts
